Government will respond to genuine demands

The President, Mr J. J. Rawlings has stated that the government appreciates the reasons which has caused workers in the country to embark on several demonstrations lately. Speaking in an interview with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, the President expressed concern about the recent spate of demonstrations by workers. He however commended the workers for the peaceful nature of the demonstrations. He praised the leadership of the Civil Servants Association of Ghana, Civil Servants Association and the Ghana Registered Nurses Association whose members, he observed had also gone about their demonstrations quite peacefully.

The President stated that the government will remain responsive to the genuine demands of the workers in order to alleviate the current hardships and cautioned the various organisations against some interest groups which might want to use the genuine grievances of workers as a spring board to instigate violence and the chaos to serve their own political ends.

President Rawlings further urged the workers to moderate their demands in order not to create inflation and jeopardise the national economy.
