Govt asked to complete Tamale Regional library project

Tamale, May 5, GNA- Mr John-Baptist Kosugamo Abiamo, Acting Northern Regional Librarian on Wednesday appealed to the Government and other stakeholders to complete expansion works on the Regional Library in Tamale, to offer residents the opportunity for academic work. He said the expansion works, which was aimed at increasing the seating capacity of adult readers from 100 to 150 and to provide more book shelves was abandoned about 29 years ago.

Mr Abiamo made the appeal during the finals of the inter-schools Science and Mathematics quiz competition organized by the Library. The competition is organized annually in commemoration of International Children's Day and to celebrate Hans Christian Anderson's birthday, a Danish Novelist.

In the finals of the quiz competition organized for 16 randomly selected schools this year, Tamale International JSS emerged as champions.

They beat Dabokpa M/A JSS 38 points as against 36 and took away a shield, 20 encyclopaedias and 20 set of exercise books, while the competitors also received five sets of exercise books each. Dabokpa M/A JSS also received a shield, 20 encyclopaedias and 16 sets of exercise books while the pupils collected four sets of exercise books each.

Abe Halperine JSS and Dahinsheli JSS were also awarded for taking the third and fourth positions respectively. Mrs Alexandra Sopiimeh, Metropolitan Director of Education, urged other schools to show interest in the quiz to enhance their knowledge. 05 May 05
