Senya Beraku (C/R), April 13 GNA - Captain Steve Kwamina Armah (rtd), the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Awutu-Effutu-Senya, has said the government did not intend to inflict hardship on Ghanaians through the increase in the price of fuel.

He explained that the measure was a necessary evil, which the people must bear to enhance the economic development of the country. Capt. Armah, was speaking in an interview to the Ghana News Agency at Winneba on Monday.

He said union leaders of the Senya Beraku and Winneba branches of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) agreed to assist the district assembly to regularize transport fares to avoid confrontation between passengers and drivers, at a meeting he had with them. The DCE commended the leaders for their willingness to collaborate with the assembly in finding solutions to transport problems that had emanated a result of the recent increase in fuel price.

Capt. Armah expressed the hope that their next meeting would come out with suggestions that would assist in solving problems affecting both transport operators and passengers towards economic development.
