Govt hasn’t eased restrictions yet – Information Minister warns Faith-Based Organisations

Government has clarified that the restrictions on gatherings remain in full force despite its engagements with industries, stakeholders and some groups in the country in relation to the post restriction guidelines.

Addressing a Press conference in Accra, Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah reiterated that the engagements underway are only a post restriction scenario and should not be misinterpreted as the easing of restrictions.

“The government is grateful to all these groups and the others who’ll be engaged for their cooperation so far. But note that the fact that you’re being engaged does not mean that the proposal that have come from you have been accepted or that restrictions have been amended or lifted currently. The restrictions remain in full force and offenders would be arrested and prosecuted” the Minister warned.

It would be recalled that from March, 15, the government imposed and subsequently amended various restrictions aimed at protecting the population from the deadly coronavirus disease.

Meanwhile, the government has envisaged to outline in the coming weeks a gradual plan that will ensure safety of citizens while it allows some form of normalcy in daily activities in the country.

Following this, President Akufo-Addo has commenced engagements with various stakeholders on safety measures that can allow easing of the restrictions without compromising the health of the population amidst the covid-19 scare.

The President has already engaged the Association of Ghana Industries(AGI), Faith-Based Organisations, Transport sector and the stakeholders in the education community for standard and agreed measures in the post restriction era.
