GOVERNMENT MUST ACT QUICKLY TO SOLVE HAJJ CRISIS

I am appealing to President Kufuor and the Hajj Council to please take immediate steps to put and end to the traumatic experience that our Moslem brethren intending to journey to the Holy Land of Mecca are going through.

The near-disregard by the NPP government for the stranded Moslems and the dehumanizing conditions under which they are living as they await the possibility of making the trip is extremely worrying.

Last year, the same thing happened and it is disturbing that to-be pilgrims are stranded again this year especially against the backdrop of some of the people who were stranded last year suffering the same fate this year.

I am calling on President Kufuor and the NPP government as well as the group responsible for making sure that the stranded Moslems make the trip to please do all within the limit of their official positions to end the trauma of the stranded to-be pilgrims.

By the 15th of this month, the Jeddah airport will be closed to all flights, meaning that if the stranded pilgrims do not leave Ghana before Friday, that will be the end of their pilgrimage dreams for this year. Certainly, the financial and emotional cost if they fail to make the trip is quite obvious

The government must step in and get the Hajj Council to act with speed because they do not have the luxury of time on their side.
