The Deputy Minister for Health, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye has stated that, the Finance Ministry has given financial clearance to the Health Ministry for the recruitment of over 20,000 nurses to support the health sector this year.
He stated that, it is expected that, all these nurses will be recruited this year to help bridge the nurse to patient ratio as prescribed by the World Health Organization.
The MP for Ledzokuku was speaking at the launch of the International 2020 Nurse’s Day and mark of the 60th Anniversary Celebration which was held in Accra.
Speaking to the gathering, Dr Okoe Boye touted the government’s achievements in the health sector as he said over 36,000 nurses have been employed and are currently working since the NPP came into office.
He commended nurses for their continuous support and sacrifice for the country acknowledging that, no health facility could survive with the support of nurses.
Dr Okoe Boye stressed that, government will not break the supply chain of Personal Protective Equipment’s (PPE’s) to nurses since they need it every now and then especially in the fight against the coronavirus.
