A State banquet was held at the State House in Accra on Friday to round off activities marking the inauguration of President Kufuor for a second four-year term.

Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria and Ahmed Tejan Kabah of Sierra Leone were among the distinguished guests at the dinner.

Proposing the toast, President Kufuor pledged to work hard to merit the continued trust and support given to him by the people of Ghana and the West African sub-region. He said he would also work to meet people?s expectations.

The President said there was enough evidence to prove that his administration?s achievements, particularly in the macro economic front, social development policies and relentless pursuit of good governance and the rule of law, had attracted strong international acclaim and respect.

Ghana, he said, had gained many more international friends and was confident that those friendships would translate to acts of concrete support for the country?s economic development efforts.

The president expressed gratitude to all the foreign dignitaries for gracing the occasion.

Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo who responded to the toast, commended Ghanaians for the peaceful and successful elections. He called for the entrenchment of democratic dispensation and rule of law in Africa as a whole.
