Government has unveiled a plan to revamp popular tourism facilities in the country, Vice president Bawumia has stated.

He said the government will re-develop basic heritage structures, tourist sites as well as eco-parks which are in dire need of attention so the country can attract more tourists.

Speaking at the first Regional Congress on Women Empowerment in the Tourism sector, Mr. Bawumia added the move will help develop a new form of income and additional revenue to be able to give these destinations the much needed face-lift anytime.

“Under the Ghana Tourism Development Project, the government is upgrading several of the tourist sites in the country. The president understands the inextricable link among tourism, the arts, and culture. Ghana’s tourism and arts are unique attraction poles. The tourism ministry operates with this understanding and is working towards positioning the country as a prime destination for tourists visiting sub-Sahara and Africa”. He established.

Mr. Bawumia also urged African leaders to explore how they could use tourism to tackle some common development challenges, including poverty, illiteracy, diseases, outmoded cultural practices and mismanagement of its natural resources.

“I indulge all of you to contribute generously to improve the industry and empower women in tourism for sustainable development and to improve the living standards of our people,” he maintained.
