Govt urged to assist private schools financially

The Proprietress of Golden Intellectuals School (GIS), a montessouri teaching and learning centre in Sunyani, Mrs. Ranti P. N. Adjaku, has called on the government to consider making available grants and loans to private schools in the country to acquire adequate infrastructure.

This she said would put private educational institutions on sound footing to enable them make greater impact in training the needed human resource for the country’s development agenda. “When private schools are resourced financially they certainly gain strong footing to make greater impact in training human resource for our national development agenda”, she said.

Mrs. Adjaku made the appeal during the climax the 5thanniversary of the school and its first graduation under the theme “Nurturing Intellectuals Unto Golden Heights”.

The Proprietress noted that since Ghana aspires to have quality education for all children including those in private schools, there is the need for the country to create the enabling environment for private educational institutions to enable them achieve their aims of assisting in the provision of quality education for all children who public schools cannot accommodate.

Mrs. Adjaku called for speedy release of funds meant for educational projects to facilitate the provision of education for all. “ I strongly believe that funds for educational facilities and projects should be released promptly to facilitate the provision of quality education for all”, she said.

She also appealed to traditional authorities and other stakeholders to promptly release lands for establishment of schools since the training of children academically is paramount. “ I appeal to our traditional authorities to continue to release lands for the establishment of more schools because more children must be trained”, she said.

Mrs. Adjaku added that the contribution of private schools to the overall national development agenda is crucial and every effort must be made to resource them.
