Govt urged to break silence on "Cap 30"

Takoradi, March 30, GNA- The Leadership of the Joint Consultative Forum (JCF) of some Government organisations have repeated their call for the restoration of the Government Pension Law (Cap 30) of 1946 and the Teachers Pension Ordinance of 1955. The forum comprises the Civil Servant's Association of Ghana (CSAG), Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Ghana Registered Nurses Association (GRNA) and the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSSAG). It noted that contrary to the principle of good governance and equity as enshrined in the constitution, a new incomes policy and administration of terminal benefits has emerged rather in favour of certain category of Government workers.

A release signed by the leadership of the forum said, "While some public servants should be helped to swim, others are being made to sink". It said that, the discrimination among civil servants and some other working groups within the country was "a sign of deprivation, selective treatment and adhoc". The forum said even though it had used approved channels to seek redress and to correct the anomaly, this had not received any positive response. "Contradictory statements from government officials has left the leadership and members of the forum in a state of worry and insecurity about their fate, in relation to the end of service benefits", it said.

The release noted that members of the forum had become "hysterical, dispirited, impatient and unpredictable", due to the inability of their leadership to get the issue discussed. The forum therefore, urged the government to break its silence on the matter for the restoration of the "Cap 30" and teachers Pension Ordinance and the End of Service Benefit (ESB).
