The Proprietress of Golden Intellectuals School (GIS), a montessouri teaching and learning centre in Sunyani, Mrs. Ranti P. N. Adjaku, has called on the government to ensure the speedy completion of the Brong-Ahafo regional library in Sunyani to enhance reading and learning for children.

She noted that the lack of a standard library is a disserive to government’s drive at ensuring quality education for all and urged stakeholders to step up efforts at completing the library project. “The provision of a standard library would be an incentive in government’s drive at providing quality education for our children and every effort must be made to ensure a speedy completion of the regional library”, she said.

Mrs. Adjaku made the appeal in her address to climax the 5thanniversary of the school and its first graduation under the theme “Nurturing Intellectuals Unto Golden Heights”.

The proprietress pointed out that until stakeholders give adequate attention to education, the country may not get the full complement of human resource for accelerated development.

Mrs. Adjaku charged parents to also spend quality time with their children when they are at home. She expressed concern about the number of hours children spend watching TV and idling about at home. “I urge parents to spend quality time with their children at home and regulate the number of hours children spend behind TV sets”, she said.

She added that teachers alone cannot train children and appealed to parents to assist children in doing their academic work while at home. “Children spend greater part of their time at home and it is the responsibility of parents to closely monitor their growth academically, socially, physically and mentally”, she said.

Activities marking the celebration included, procession through the principal streets of Sunyani, excursion to the Sunyani airport, visit to the pediatric ward of the Brong-Ahafo regional hospital, the maiden graduation ceremony, funfair and games as well as a thanks giving service at the Odumase assembly of the Fountain Gate Chapel.

Golden Intellectuals School was established on July 23, 2006 with the aim of nurturing intellectuals unto golden heights whilst supporting parents who due to the nature of their work, would not be able to go through the challenge of combining taking care of their children with busy work schedules.
