Participants at the just ended 54th annual New Year School have asked the government not to increase utility tariffs and other taxes without corresponding increase in salaries and wages. They noted that if the tariff increases did not correspond with wages and salary increases, they would become a potential recipe for labour unrest in the country.
In a resolution adopted, the 179 participants from government, private sector, academia, civil society organizations among others, suggested that government should take steps to institute a national productivity framework to regulate industrial activities nationwide.
On the issue of security and law enforcement, the participants urged the government to promote continuing training programmes for personnel of security agencies at all levels to upgrade their knowledge and skills for improved performance and professionalism.
On the media front, the participants asked the Ghana Journalists Association to intensify the education of its members on its code of ethics.
They also suggested the creation a permanent inter-party advisory committee at all levels to facilitate continuous dialogue among political parties in the country
