Govt will resolve accommodation problems in schools - Veep

Accra Nov. 11, GNA - Vice President John Dramani Mahama has reiterat= ed Government's commitment to resolve all accommodation problems confronting=

educational institutions in the country.

"As you are aware, the process of expansion that has already started= in some schools is strategically planned in phases and would continue until we are able to provide adequate resources for all schools."

The Vice President said this in a speech read on his behalf at the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Half Assini Senior High School in the Western Region.

Mr Mahama said Government recognized the limited facilities in Senio= r High Schools (SHS's) and Technical Institutions, as against the comparatively larger number of Junior High School (JHS) graduates who wis= hed to access post basic education.

"It should be noted that these challenges are enormous and have been=

compounded over the years due to the increasing number of children of school- going age, hence the need to expand facilities."

He said Government was committed to universal quality education for all as enshrined in the Millennium Development Goals which Government and the=

people of Ghana had signed to.

He said irrespective of whatever circumstances, no Ghanaian child should be denied access to quality basic and post-basic education. Mr Mahama therefore urged all stakeholders in the public and private=

sectors, chiefs, parents and teachers to support government in its effort= to promote quality education for all Ghanaian children. The Vice President further challenged students to strive to acquire knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that would prepare them for a brighter future.

He also tasked the school to improve on its academic record and continue to strive for excellence.

"I wish to encourage you students to continue to exhibit a great sen= se of dedication in the discharge of your responsibility to the school. In doing so, you will lift high the potential of this school in producing we= ll balanced youth who will build this nation," he told the students. Mr Kodwo E. Edjah, Headmaster of the school, appealed to Government to help build another girls dormitory and rehabilitate its assembly hall. He said the school had been grappling with attempted rape cases and attacks by intruders because the girls' dormitory had not been fenced. He thanked the past students and other philanthropists who had diversely contributed to the development of the school. 11 Nov. 10
