Takoradi, March 29, GNA- President John Agyekum Kufuor on Saturday gave the assurance that government would continue to support the New Education Reform to ensure that brought tremendous change to the country's educational system.
He said government would do this in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to provide the requisite logistics for the programme. President Kufuor gave the assurance in an address read on his behalf by Madam Naana Biney, Deputy Director General of the GES, at the 50th Anniversary and Speech and Prize-Giving Day of Takoradi Secondary School was under the theme "TADISCO @ 50: the New Educational Reform and Challenges for Day Institutions, the Role of the Stakeholders," at Takoradi.
He said all stakeholders including government, parents, teachers and students have unique roles to play to make the Reform a success. President Kufuor said, "As a government, we will provide the needed infrastructure and logistics for the smooth running of the Reform and we also promise to show high level of commitment to this programme." He said teachers would be well motivated to give of their best to ensure the success of the programme. President Kufuor said teachers would be given more in-service training to enable them deliver effectively and grants made available to schools.
He urged parents and guardians to support the Reform by sending their wards and children to school and encouraging them to study hard be of good behaviour. President Kufuor said conditions at the home should be conducive for students to study because they would be competing with their colleagues in the boarding houses who have almost everything at their disposal. He said "It is important also to keep a watchful eye on their academic performances and the calibre of friends they associate with. School fees must be paid on time to prevent the authorities from driving them out of school."
Mr Joe Baidoe-Ansah, Member of Parliament for Effia-Kwesimintsim and Minister of Trade, Industry, Private Sector Development and President's Special Initiatives, reminded students that they had every opportunity to transform their lives by studying hard and laying a solid foundation for their future development and prosperity.
He said their education should, however, be anchored on discipline in order to be of benefit to themselves and society. Mr Baidoe-Ansah urged the students to take advantage of their education to build a strong moral character which would ensure their success in the future. Mr Kofi Adofo Osei, head master of the school, appealed to the authorities of the GETFUND to consider helping solve the school solve its infrastructural problems. 29 March 08
