Govt would not deport people in Zongo Communities

Mankrong-Junction, Dec 1, GNA - Mr John Kwesi Agyabeng, aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Agona East, has reiterated that, the government would not deport people in the Zongo communities, as being rumoured by some political parties. He said the eight years of government under President J.A. Kufuor never troubled Muslim communities, even though it was alleged in 2000 and 2004 elections that the NPP government was going to push them out when the party wins power.

Mr Agyabeng, who is also the incumbent MP, said a Nana Akufo-Addo government would not attempt to do anything that would ruin the country's peace and stability.

The MP said these when he interacted with the Mankrong-Junction Muslim Community, to canvas for votes in the December 7, general election.

Earlier, enthusiastic supporters of the NPP embarked on a four hour keep fit walk through Mankrong-Junction, Oketsiew and other towns, to show the strength of the party in the area. Mr Agyabeng urged the Zongo communities to vote for him and Nana Akufo-Addo in Sunday's elections, adding that, the people of the area must give power to someone who is resident in the constituency and not to a non-resident.

He reminded them to retain him to complete the development projects he initiated four years ago, aimed at promoting their living standards. The MP noted that the NPP government had kept faith with Ghanaians in the areas of free maternal care, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Capitation Grant, micro finance programme, to support their businesses.

Mr Dennis Armah-Frempong, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Agona East, said the NPP would continue campaigning on issues that would move the nation forward and would not resort to insults, character assassination, maligning and other smear campaigns as some parties are doing against the MP and Nana Akufo-Addo.

He said all bad roads in the district had been awarded on contract and the contractors had already started work to enable farmers to send their produce to the marketing centres.

Mr Armah-Frempong urged the youth to vote for visionary and vibrant leaders, who could change the country's fortune, adding that, President J.A. Kufuor had built a good foundation for Nana Akufo-Addo to continue. The DCE urged the people in the constituency to vote for the MP and the NPP Flagbearer so that their children would enjoy the free secondary education promised by Nana Akufo-Addo. Alhaji Seko Dauda Kamatey, Mankrong-Junction Zongo Chief said the people would give their mandate to the MP and Nana Akufo-Addo in next Sunday's election, but the people of Zongo should not be forgotten in the developmental projects. He asked the Zongo communities to desist from acts that would undermine the voting processes on Election Day, to promote unity and peace among Ghanaians. 1 Dec. 08
