Accra, June 21, GNA - The Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG) on Wednesday called on the Government to increase funds for effective research for national development.
The current funding for graduate research is "woefully inadequate and should be increased as a matter of urgency so that research can be guaranteed".
This was contained in a communiqu=E9 signed by its President Betrand-Russel Ouaye at the end of its 12th Delegates Congress on the theme: "Linking Graduate Research to Industry and National Development."
The 10-point communiquE asked the Government among other things to spend adequately on post graduate training locally since the amount of money spent on one person's overseas training could be used to sponsor and train about 10 students locally.
It called on Government and industry to utilize the research findings by ensuring that the universities were made aware of the relevant areas of research that students needed to look at for national development.
It urged the Government to involve post-graduate students in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of projects and research programmes.
The communiquE urged stakeholders in the maintenance and development of Graduate Studies and research to seriously consider the issues identified to ensure that all obstacles in the graduate research to industry and national development were removed for effective development.
It also commended the Blacks Stars for their impressive performance in their encounter with the Czechs.
