Graphic boss elected GJA President

Accra, March 9, GNA - Members of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on Thursday elected Mr Ransford Tetteh, News Editor of the Daily Graphic as its new president at the close of keenly contested polls supervised by the Electoral Commission.

Mr Tetteh polled 291 valid votes as against 245 votes by Ms. Sarah Akrofi Quarcoo, Editor-in Chief of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, (GBC).

Two incumbent GJA Executives retained their posts- National Treasurer, Ms. Yaa Oforiwaa Acquah of the Ghana News Agency defeated her opponent, Mrs Esi Asante of New Times Corporation with 296 votes to 245 votes whiles Mr Affail Monney, Vice President from GBC beat Ms. Charity Binka also of GBC with 330 votes to 207 votes.

Mr David Agbenu of New Times Corporation beat Mr Ogbamey Tetteh, Managing Editor of Gye Nyame Concord with 280 votes to 256 votes. Mr Francis Denteh, Senior Electoral Officer of the Electoral Commission who led a team of officers to conduct the elections told the Ghana News Agency, he was satisfied with the conduct of the polls. He commended the Journalists for adhering to the electoral rules and regulations and exhibiting high voting skills with zero per cent rejected ballot papers.

Mr Tetteh, in his victory speech pledged to unite and transform the association into a viable and potent entity in the country with ability to influence both national and international issues.

He said GJA is at a cross road and needs a concerted effort of all members for its forward move and called on all members to join hands with the new administration to strengthen the Association.
