Tema (GAR), June 20, - A wealthy transport owner is alleged to have parted with 28.4 million cedis to a witchdoctor at Ashaiman to perform certain rituals to increase his riches, a Tema circuit tribunal was told today. Mr Godfried Koranteng, the 35-year-old Ashaiman-based transport owner with a fleet of vehicles had his hopes dashed as the riches he expected eluded him while Shaibu Abukari, the witchdoctor, is now charged with fraud and stealing the money. Abukari, 68, and his accomplice, Joseph Amoasah, 34, have pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted 30 million cedis bail by the three-member panel tribunal chaired by Major Jacob Abobor (rtd). Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police Michael Yirenkyi said about eight months ago, one Baba and one Moses, now at large, sold a bottle of mercury to Mr Koranteng for two million cedis, convincing him that it was a sacred fluid capable of making him rich. Two weeks later, Amoasah approached Mr Koranteng and lured him to the house of Abukari after convincing him that he (Abukari) had the powers to make him richer using the mercury. ASP Yirenkyi said the complainant then paid 1.2 million cedis through Amoasah to the mallam to purchase some items for the beginning of the rituals. Later Abukari demanded 20 million cedis from Koranteng for the same ''assignment'' which Mr Koranteng paid in three instalments of 10 million cedis, six million cedis and four million cedis. The prosecutor said not rpt not satisfied with this booty, Abukari again collected 3.6 million cedis to buying three cows and another 1.6 million cedis for the same ritual. He however kept changing dates for the performance of the ritual and it took months to get Koranteng to report the matter to the police.
