Greenstreet justifying Mahama's corrupt activities - CPP

Commander In Chief of the Youth League of the Convention People's Party (CPP), Ernesto Yeboah has described as unacceptable for his party's presidential Candidate Mr. Ivor Greenstreet to justify the corrupt activities of President Mahama.

He said for president Mahama to accept a Ford Expedition gift presented to him by a Burkinabe contractor was an act of corruption and must not be tolerated.

However Mr. Ivor Kobina Greenstreet in a recent interview said, he had no feeling that there was a breach of protocol or conflict of interest over the gift.

The presidential candidate dismissed talks about impeaching President John Mahama and further described it as ridiculous after some lawyers argued that the President has breached Article 284 of the Constitution.

But in an interview with Kwame Tutu on Rainbow Radio's morning show, Frontline, the youth leader said, the stance which the candidate took was a misrepresentation of the ideologies of the party.

Mr. Yeboah explained, the party disassociated itself from the statement because as Nkrumahist, they do not condone corruption just like the former leader, Kwame Nkrumah.

"If the flagbearer had asked himself this simple question-that if it were to be Kwame Nkrumah what would he have done?; I believe strongly that, his response given; justifying corruption and defending President Mahama; sadly wouldn't have been the case because history tells us, Kwame Nkrumah in 1952 rejected a ship from the Agric Development Corporation (ADC) which he rather handed over to the state and published it. And am sure if Ivor Greenstreet applied himself of this historical fact, he would not have gone out there justifying corruption and speaking to defend President Mahama."

The CPP he stressed are not hypocrites to condone such mistakes, hence the reason why they spoke against his position.

"The fact that he is our flagbearer does not mean he will not make mistakes. He is a human being and this is the confidence we want to demonstrate to Ghanaians that, the party does not believe in the sheep mentality."

According to him, the CPP is a party that want to serve Ghanaians with integrity and honesty therefore they will not defend their leaders when they go wrong or misrepresent the ideologies of the CPP.

Meanwhile, the Youth League have petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), seeking among other things a clarity on whether there was a conflict of interest over President Mahama's ford expedition gift. Ernesto Yeboah emphasized further, the CPP is not a party of zombies but a party of thinkers and they will think to fight against corruption in the country.

In a related development, the Progressive People's Party (PPP), has hinted of petitioning CHRAJ on the same issue.

The party had earlier called on the President to apologize and resign from office.
