A civil society organisation and political watchdog, Election Watch Ghana, has requested that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) investigate the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, over possible electoral offences.

This follows a viral video showing Dr. Nyarko giving an envelope to two Electoral Commission workers during the Ejisu by-election held on April 30, 2024.

Although the Electoral Commission has withdrew the officials seen in the video, Election Watch Ghana is demanding further action, including the MP's arrest.

According to the group's statement, legal action against Dr. Nyarko is crucial for maintaining public trust in Ghana's democracy and law.

"We strongly condemn this brazen act of corruption, which undermines the integrity of our already fragile democracy. We request that your office take immediate action to investigate and prosecute the MP for Kwadaso, Kingsley Nyarko, for his involvement in this electoral malpractice.

"We believe that swift action is necessary to maintain public trust in our democratic institutions and to uphold the rule of law. We will be monitoring this case closely and expect a prompt response regarding the actions your office will take to address this matter," the statement read.

The group condemned the incident as corrupt and damaging to democracy, urging immediate investigation and prosecution.

However, the Electoral Commission claims the content of the envelope was for the officials to get lunch.

Dr. Nyarko also denies any misconduct, insisting he didn't bribe anyone.
