Group remand for attacking and killing 13 cows

A Circuit court at Fiapre near Sunyani last week remanded 15 persons including the Ex-Assemblyman and Ex-Unit Committee member into prison custody for killing 13 cows belonging to a Fulani man at Kamampa village near Yeji.

The accused persons were remanded into prison custody on five counts of conspiracy to commit crime, attempted murder, use of offensive weapons, cruelty to animals and stealing and they to reappear before the court on April 1, 2015

The accused persons whoo are all farmers are Yaw Bindam, 35, Yaw Paul,35, Unit Committee member , Kofi Chuki, 39, Birigbaa Toobi, 70, Wusi George 39, Kofi Osei,42, Banyele Tapoi, 42 , and Samuel Badonima aged 33.

The rest were John Lipobil, 41, farmer, Kwadwo Frimpong, 39, Bingnaa Bekgba, 34, watchman, Stephen Konja, 28, disk joker (DJ), Chamba Daniel, Assembly Man, 35, herdsman, Kwadwo Donkor, aged 38, mason.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah told newsmen in Sunyani that on Feb 14, 2015, some cow entered the farm of Tapoi and destroyed some crops at the farm.

He said Tapoi went to where the cows were kept and killed four of the animals with a locally manufactured gun.

ASP Tawiah said when Daniel, the Ex- Assemble man of the area and Paul, Ex-Unit Committee member heard of the destruction of the farm, they organized a group of people in the area to painted their faces with charcoal and storm the place where the animals were kept to kidnapped the Fulani herdsmen taking care of the animals.

He said the grouped again killed nine of the animals with a gun.

ASP Tawiah stated that the owner of the animals Alhaji Berete had his foot shot by the group on arrived from kintampo to assess the situation.

He said Alhaji Berete was rushed to the Yeji hospital but was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment.

ASP Tawiah said the case was reported to the Yeji police and when police got to the scene the mob that were with offensive weapon and out- numbered the police begun to attack them.

He said police went back to reinforced and strategize themselves and came back to the village on March 25, 2015 for a special operation led by the Yeji District Commander to arrest the suspects.

ASP Tawiah said accused persons were identified at the police station among the mob.
