Friends of Kwabena Agyepong, a pro New Patriotic Party (NPP) Group has added its voice to the call on the party’s National Council to review a decision by the Disciplinary Coomittee leading to the suspension of the party’s General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

The group based in the Volta Region appealed to the office of the Presidency to ensure the suspended General Secretary who has tirelessly served the party since 1992 is reinstated to his elected office.

Addressing a press conference in Ho, the leader of the group, Roland Kaykay Fiakpui attributed the current uproars by the party’s grassroots leading to vigilantism to the inability of the acting national executives to effectively manage the party.

He indicated that the suspended Kwabena Agyepong had over the years established strong connections with the rank and file of the party, therefore, his reinstatement would restore strong control of affairs of the party.

“The NPP is making the headlines which is about vigilantism because the acting executives of the party at the national level are not up to task... we believe Kwabena Agyepong has the pedigree to manage affairs of the party”, he stated.

Mr Fiakpui who recounted contributions of Mr Agyepong to the NPP especially in the presidential and parliamentary elections ahead of the 2016 general elections asserted that the “continuous stay of the suspended General Secretary outside his office can be dangerous for the party”.

He described actions by the NPP Acting Chairman, Freddie Blay, against the reinstatement of Mr Agyepong as distasteful and manifests an intention to hold up the suspension until the tenure of the General Secretary expires in April 2018.

“Is it not vicious that those who are the direct beneficiaries of the suspension are the most vociferous against his resitantemt?”, he opined.

Mr Fiakpui further stated that “If the original intention was to remove rather than suspend, then the process stipulated in the appropriate article of the party’s constitution Article 10, should have been respected and activated”

He asserted that the current occurrences with regards to the suspension of the General Secretary is a complete abuse and violation of the NPP’s constitution.
