The captain says the Black Stars were just unlucky in their semi-final clash against the Stallions and no need to blame the Mbombela pitch for Ghana's defeat

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has conceded his side lost to a well organised Burkina Faso side and would not want to put the blame on the uneven Mbombela pitch in Nelspruit.

The Stallions reached their first Africa Cup of Nations final in a match marred by poor officiating by beating the Black Stars on penalties in a tension-packed game that was characterised by drama and controversies.

Concerns were raised about the poor nature of the Mbombela pitch ahead of the semi-final clash, but the captain of the Black Stars said the pitch played no part in the team’s defeat.

"We can't find excuses with the field. We came here to win. The better side won. The luckier side won," the Al Ain striker said in a post-match interview.

"We are really sad. We are down. What else can I say? We'll psych ourselves up and go for third place match."
