The Ashanti Regional Bureau Chief of Daily Graphic, Daniel Kenu, who was allegedly beaten by Baffuor Gyan, brother of Ghana’s skipper, Asamoah Gyan, and some stoutly built men recently, could not turn up at the KMA Circuit Court yesterday.

Cocoa Clinic, a medical facility in Kumasi where he had been receiving treatment, had advised that he was not fit to stand trial at the court.

The hospital also advised Daniel Kenu to immediately see a psychologist to determine his mental and physical condition before he appears before the court, Prosecutor of the case, Supt. Emmanuel Akunnor told the packed court.

The court presided over by William Boampong was supposed to begin hearing of the case in which Baffuor Gyan and Samuel Anim Addo, manager of Asamoah Gyan, had been accused of assaulting the journalist and subsequently charged for assault.

But the absence of the Daily Graphic reporter, who is a principal witness in the case which had attracted wide public attention compelled the court to adjourn the matter to September 19, 2014.

Baffuor Gyan and Samuel Anim Addo, as well as their lawyers, were in court.

Daniel Kenu, it would be recalled, was allegedly slapped on both cheeks by Baffour Gyan after which other stoutly-built men followed by giving the hapless journalist hefty blows.

The incident occurred at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi recently where Daniel Kenu had visited to process accreditation card for the Ghana/Uganda game. The alleged beating was said to have been witnessed by other journalists.

Daniel Kenu, at a press soiree of the Black Stars in Kumasi, had asked Asamoah Gyan to clear the air regarding the missing of his friend, the Hiplife star, Castro, and the latter’s female friend, on the Volta Lake at Ada in the Greater Accra Region.

The question posed by the journalist that Castro might have been sacrificed by his friend as rumours suggested, angered Asamoah Gyan who refused to answer the question and threatened to attack the journalist. It is suspected that Kenu suffered the beatings because of the question he posed to Asamoah Gyan.
