Wenchi (B/A), Jan. 4, GNA - A-five day workshop of the Wenchi Methodist Hospital HIV/AIDS Programme for selected 60 junior secondary school pupils and 20 teachers from 20 schools in the Wenchi Township has ended at Wenchi in the Brong-Ahafo Region. The theme for the workshop was: "Deepening the awareness for behavioural change."
In an address, Mr. Amano-Kyeremeh, Wenchi District Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES) commended the organisers and urged the participants to take the workshop seriously. Mr. Amano-Kyeremeh urged the government to intensify the HIV/AIDS campaign to stem the spread of the disease. He urged teachers, parents and the public to educate the youth on the dangers of the HIV/AIDS epidemic and advocated the establishment of virgins clubs throughout the country.
Bishop C.K. Konadu of the Wenchi Methodist Diocese called for the intensification of sex education in schools and urged parents to discuss the dangers of casual sex with their children. He also called on Ghanaians to be faithful to their partners to avoid the spread of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
The Chairman of the function, Mr. B.C.K. Botwe, Deputy Chief Health Services Administrator for the Wenchi Methodist Hospital commended the government for voting 300 million cedis towards the care and support for HIV/AIDS patients in the Wenchi District.
He called on the Non-Governmental Organisations and well-wishers to donate generously towards the HIV/AIDS programme in the District.
