Afrancho(Ashanti Region) July 19, Chronicle -- Death, they say, is a necessary end and will always come at its appointed time. Nevertheless, the way some people experience their death is often horrifying and very bizarre.

Such was the death of little Janet Acheampong, a ten - year old class three pupil of the Afrancho District Assembly primary school, who died from several complications following her subjection to indecent assault at the hands of a 19 year old, Kwaku Afriyie alias ?Inspector?, also a resident of Afrancho near Kumasi.

The well-built Afriyie, as gathered by The Chronicle, is presently languishing in prison custody, pending the final verdict of an Offinso court, which is hearing the case.

Narrating the incident to this paper, Madam Ama Mansa, who had adopted the girl a few years ago, stated that the little girl had kept it all to herself when Afriyie raped her.

She said for some time, the girl was growing lean, indicating signs of sickness. Yet any time she was questioned on what might be wrong with her, the young girl insisted that all was well.

According to the old woman, as she could not understand the sudden change in the girl?s physical appearance, she invited her to her room and subjected her to a series of questions, adding that it was on that day that the girl mustered courage and told her that she had been raped by Afriyie a couple of weeks back.

?When I asked her to undress, she obliged and I wept bitterly. In fact, what I saw was very horrible and I was wondering how she had managed to keep those wounds on her for that long period.?

Asked why she did not disclose it, she said she was afraid because Afriyie had warned her that if she dared tell anyone about her ordeal, she would die.

Madam Mansah told The Chronicle that on that same day, she took her to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) where she was admitted and a complaint was made to the police at Kodie in the Offinso District, following which Afriyie was arrested.

Madam Mansa disclosed that barely three days after her admission to the KATH, the girl died from the numerous complications she had sustained from the sordid act.

On how and where the class three pupil was allegedly raped, the woman disclosed that the young girl told her that she was lured into a sugar cane farm near their school by the rapist with the promise that she was to be given some of the sugar cane but on reaching the farm, she was forcibly gagged and raped.

Explaining how she happened to adopt the girl, the woman said a couple of years ago, the father of the child whose name she only recollected as Acheampong alias ?Santo?, had come to stay at Afrancho with the girl.

According to Madam Mansa, the girl?s mother, a Liberian, happened to stay with the girl in La Cote d?Ivoire, but after a quarrel, he took her away from the mother.

?While in Afrancho here, Janet, who was named Yaayaa, started playing with my children and eventually came to stay in my house while the father continued to live in a different house,? she disclosed.

The old woman continued that, ? at a point, the father of the child told me that he was leaving this town and did not want to go with the child as he was then not sure of his destination.?

Santo is also said to have pleaded with Madam Mansa to stay with the girl since she was already fond of her, to which request she readily agreed.

The woman stated, however, that since Santo left the town, nothing had been heard from him, therefore, she could not tell whether he was alive or not.

?Not even several radio announcements to this effect could help trace the deceased?s father.?

She therefore appealed for the assistance of the general public in tracing the parents of the late Janet.
