The main opposition New Patriotic Party founding father, Hackman Owusu Agyeman, says the party’s twice-defeated presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, should contest for a third time if he feels fit enough to do so.
“If he has the energy and majority of the people in the party want him, why not?” Mr. Owusu Agyeman said on Tuesday.
There is presently, a storm of debate in the party as to whether Nana Akufo-Addo should run for a third time or not.
The debate started when General Secretary Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie told XYZ News that the former Attorney General will run for 2016.
Some presidential hopefuls and elders in the Party have criticised Mr. Owusu Afriyie’s comments.
Former Presidential Aspirant, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, for instance, told XYZ News Sir John, as Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie is popularly known, “jumped the gun” with his comments and also showed disregard to “alternative views” in the party.
Another former Aspirant, Dan Botwe, has also condemned the debate as “premature” and “unnecessary”.
Mr. Owusu Agyeman, however, told Joy News on Tuesday that instead of condemning Sir John, those with different views should rather express their alternative opinion, rather than tear each other apart in the media.
