Hairdressers, artisans receive training in occupational safety

A day’s training programme on health and occupational safety for about 98 hairdressers and artisans in the Atebubu-Amantin district has been held in Atebubu.

According to the district head of the Business Advisory Centre, Mr. Isaac Oppong the purpose of the exercise funded by the Rural Enterprises Programme REP was to enhance efficiency and productivity of participants in order to improve incomes.

The acting district Director of Health Services Mr. Ramseyer Ahmed took participants through the causes, symptoms, prevention and treatment of cholera and Ebola. He urged them to always endeavor to operate in a clean environment in order to ensure good health.

Sub Officer Nicholas Anobiga of the Ghana National Fire Service touched on disasters both manmade and natural as well as the types, causes, prevention and control of fires. He also took them through practical fire prevention techniques.

Messrs. Martinson Osei and Samuel Pinto of the National Vocational Training Institute were on hand to offer pieces of advice on the need for adequate rest, appropriate handling of heavy equipment and the importance of keeping first aid at work places.
