Handle government property with care - Minister

Accra, May 17, GNA - Mr Andrews Adjei Yeboah, Deputy Minister for Lands, Mines and Forestry, on Thursday advised Ghanaians especially government workers, to desist from misusing and mishandling of government property.

He said this attitude had contributed to the poor state and collapse of most government businesses and properties. Mr Adjei Yeboah made the appeal when he handed over 10 motorbikes estimated at 15,000 dollars to each of the 10 pilot Customary Land Secretariats (CSL) in the 10 regions.

He said the motorbikes, which showed their commitment and support to improving land administration, were to assist the secretariat to patrol and monitor development of lands and what it was being used for. Mr Adjei Yeboah noted that the CLS were to serve as the interface between the traditional land ownership system and the public land administration system working in a harmonized environment. He said the CLS formed part of the bigger Land Administration Project, which was aimed at laying the foundation for a sustainable land administration system that was fair, efficient, cost effective, transparent and guaranteed security of tenure. The Minister appealed to the beneficiaries to take care of the motorbikes saying, "Ghana is entrusting its property in your care. Use them for what they are meant for and don't defeat the purpose of the land administration project".

The beneficiary towns are Kete-Krachi, Kyebi, Wassa Amenfi, Kumasi, Tamale, Tabiase, Sandema, Kasoa, Dormaa Ahenkro and Gbawe.
