Today, May 31, 2016, marks the 49th birthday of Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hanna Serwaa Tetteh.

She is also the Member of Parliament for the Awutu Senya West constituency.

Hanna Tetteh was born in Szeged, Hungary, to a Ghanaian father and Hungarian mother. She had her secondary education at Wesley Girls’ High School at Cape Coast. She studied law at the University of Ghana, attended the Ghana Law School and became a Barrister-at-Law in 1992.

The Awutu Senya West legislator won the seat in the December 2000 parliamentary election.

After the governing National Democratic Congress’ victory in the 2008 elections, she became the spokesperson for the newly-elected government.

She was the Minister of Trade & Industry under President John Atta Mills. After President John Dramani Mahama took office following the demise of President Mills, he also appointed Ms. Tetteh as the Communications Director for his 2012 election campaign.

She was nominated by Mr Mahama as Minister of Foreign Affairs and appointed as such in January 2013 after parliamentary approval. When President Mahama became the Chairman of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government in March 2014, she became the Chairperson of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers at the same time.

Some Ghanaians took to Twitter to wish her well:

Meanwhile today also marks the 50th birthday of the flagbearer of the Conventions People's Party (CPP) Ivor Greenstreet.
