The Director General of the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE), Dr. Collins Yeboah-Afari has urged ICT practitioners and stakeholders to harness the power of technology in the fight against breast cancer.

He made this call to action at the third edition of the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT’s Pink Week Celebration focusing on the theme Close the Care Gap.

Dr. Collins Yeboah-Afari highlighted the potential of digital health innovations, such as mobile applications for self-examinations, telemedicine platforms, and data analytics, to raise awareness, facilitate early detection, and improve access to care.

According to him, it is high time urgent attention is given to the need to address the disparities in breast cancer care that many women face, particularly in Africa.

“Breast cancer poses one of the most significant health challenges for women around the world, and the statistics in Africa are particularly concerning,” he stated.

Dr. Yeboah-Afari urged everyone to work tirelessly to transform the seemingly impossible into reality by closing the care gaps that hinder timely diagnosis and treatment.

“Breast cancer knows no boundaries; it affects women from all walks of life,” he said, emphasizing the universal nature of the disease and the need for a united effort to dismantle barriers to healthcare access.

He also highlighted the crucial role of families in supporting individuals through their cancer journeys.

He cited the World Health Organization’s reminder that “without families, there is no way we can survive or conquer this challenge.”

He stressed on the importance of family support in providing the courage and resilience needed to face the battle against breast cancer.

Dr. Yeboah-Afari expressed gratitude to the partners, Accra Medical Center, for their expertise and for their generous support to Hollard Life.

The Accra Medical Centre in partnership with GI-KACE conducted breast screening and interactive sessions to encourage early detection, provide resources for prevention, and ensure that no one has to face breast cancer alone. The Pink Week celebration was sponsored by Hollard Life.
