Harvard University Hosts Ghana Conference on Health & Dev't

Ghanaians are writing a new chapter in Africa’s history. Is it time to get on board? In 2002, Ghanaians abroad pumped $1.3 billion into Ghana’s economy, primarily through remittances to family and friends. Yet there’s a growing awareness that we can do better than just wiring money home to our loved ones. Starting with Harvard University on March 1, 2003, Ghanaians and friends of Ghana will be meeting at university campuses around the world to:

(1) Discuss ways to improve Ghana’s failing health system
(2) Launch project to raise $2.5 million to help rebuild Korle-Bu and Komfo Anokye

Over 700 pregnant women out of every 100,000 that go into labor at Korle-Bu never make it back alive. The corresponding figure in Jamaica is 120, whilst Israel records only 7 deaths per 100,000 live births. The program, scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm, would include:

(i) A video documentary on Korle-Bu and Komfo Anokye
(ii) Panel discussion: interactive question-and-answer session. Large audience expected
(iii) Dinner and dance
