'He does not deserve a counsel' - Kwadwo Poku condemns Burma Camp assault

Energy expert Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku has condemned the soldier captured in a viral video brutally assaulting two civilians at a pharmacy at Burma Camp.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM show on Thursday, October 30, 2025, Poku described the act as indefensible and inhumane, insisting the soldier does not deserve legal representation.

“If a lawyer comes to defend this man, I will be very surprised. He does not deserve a counsel,” he said, adding that the incident was a clear case of assault.

Eyewitnesses say the altercation began when the man demanded a refund of GH¢65 for medication he had earlier sent a boy to purchase.

When the attendants explained that medicines bought could not be refunded, the man reportedly became furious and assaulted them.

In the video, the man is seen slapping a female customer before punching and striking a male worker several times.

He emphasised the need for the military leadership to act decisively.

His comments add to growing public outrage over the incident, which have sparked calls for swift disciplinary action from the security authorities.
