Dormaa Akwamu (B/A), Jan. 28, GNA- Some Ghanaians may not reap any benefits under the health insurance scheme as a result of deteriorating standards at some health facilities, especially in the rural areas. Dr Christian Nyarko Aduama, Dormaa District Director of health Services, said the health centre at Dormaa Akwamu in the Dormaa district for instance, which was constructed in 1964 has never been rehabilitated leading to deplorable conditions there.
He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the poor state of facilities at the centre "does not augur well for efficient and effective health delivery to the people" and urged the District Assembly to rehabilitate it.
If the Assembly fails to do so, the Ministry of Health may be compelled to close down the centre, he cautioned.
Mr Emmanuel Duku, District Chief Executive, told the GNA that rehabilitation work on the centre, estimated at more than two billion cedis "is so huge for the Assembly alone to bear".
He called on the Ministry of Health, individuals and NGOs to offer assistance for the completion of the project.
The DCE asked the Ministry to consider converting the centre into a specialist hospital after its rehabilitation. 28 Jan 04
