Heath Goldfields confirms death toll at Bogoso-Prestea concession

Heath Goldfields Ltd has confirmed that three illegal miners lost their lives after entering its Prestea concession in Ghana’s Western Region without authorisation.

The miners were reportedly trapped in an inactive underground section of the site after gaining access through restricted passages.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that as many as 11 illegal miners may have been affected following a collapse in parts of the abandoned mine over the weekend.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, Heath Goldfields Ltd extended its condolences to the bereaved families and the Prestea community.

“Every loss of life, regardless of circumstance, is painful, and we stand with the affected families in grief and sympathy,” adomonline.com quoted the company as saying.

The company further assured that it is collaborating with the Ghana Police Service, the Minerals Commission, and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) as investigations and recovery efforts continue, while commending emergency teams for their swift response.

“As a responsible mining company, Heath Goldfields Ltd. remains committed to the highest standards of safety. We continue to implement stringent security and safety protocols across all our concessions,” the statement added.
