Nkwanta, Aug 17, GNA - Recent heavy rains in the Volta Region have caused enormous damages to some roads and bridges, rendering them impassable. In the Nkwanta District sections of the Abrubruwa/Obanda and Salifu/Bontibor roads have been washed away and the bridge over the Labor River and

Nkwanta-Kue Bridge over Dechebu River has been damaged, rendering them impassable. Mr Joseph Nicab, Nkwanta South District Chief Executive, said over 25 communities upstream have been separated from the district capital, making it difficult

for them to cart foodstuffs from the farm gates to marketing centres. Mr Nicab called for expedited action on the roads in the district as the heavy rains had left roads in a bad state with gaping "man holes". He commended officials of the Department of Feeder Roads (DFR), Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) and the National Disaster Management Organisation

(NADMO) for their swift response to their distress call. Mr Roosevelt Odai Otoo, Volta Regional Manager of DFR, said Dambai-Yariga in the Krachi-East District, Vakpo-Tsrukpe-Kume in Kpando District, Akrofu

-Klefe in Ho Municipal and Akatsi-Xavi in the Akatsi Districts have had roads and bridges inundated by floodwaters. Meanwhile, floodwaters have cut-off the main Tinjase junction/Nabu segment of road in the Nkwanta North District breaking down 40 houses and displacing
