Height restriction barrier has collapsed on the Accra-Kumasi highway
A height restriction barrier installed at Ankaase on the main Accra–Kumasi Highway in the Atewa East District has collapsed, creating a significant hazard for motorists using the busy route.
The metal barrier, constructed to a height of five metres to regulate vehicle loads, was built with heavy steel and reinforced with concrete at both ends.
In a viral post on X on November 9, 2025, it was found hanging dangerously across the road, compelling drivers to slow down sharply to avoid a collision.
Danger looms on Accra-Kumasi highway as parts wash away
The cause of the collapse remains unknown, though workers on the ongoing Ankaase–Asamang Tamfoe overpass project suspect that low-bed trucks transporting heavy mining equipment may have struck the structure, weakening or dislodging it.
The situation is already causing traffic congestion, as the partially fallen barrier forces motorists to manoeuvre cautiously around it.
The absence of warning signs or traffic management measures has heightened fears of accidents, especially at night when visibility is poor.
