The Director of Public Affairs at the Police headquarters, DSP Cephas Arthur, has assured Ghanaians of their safety during and after the Easter holidays with the help of the police nationwide, and especially in Kwahu.
Over the years bizarre incidents have occurred during Easter celebrations at Kwahu in the Eastern Region leaving many merrymakers and celebrants in great shock, as well as burglars using the opportunity to attack innocent people.
But DSP Cephas Arthur has guaranteed police readiness to deploy it personnel to Kwahu and across the nation to ensure public safety and battle crime.
“As we do all the times, we (the police) will step up our security measures to ensure that, we secure the special activities that will be performed during the festivity period. You know during the Easter a lot of people will be going to Kwahu and other parts of the country to celebrate the holidays, so we have put in place a very comprehensive security system to make sure citizens are safe during the Easter,” he said.
He however said the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service will also array personnel to ensure order and compliance of the traffic regulations during the holidays to ensure less carnage on roads.
This initiative he says forms part of measures to minimise road-user indiscipline that normally characterize on such occasions in the country.
“The security measures have been divided into three, the road safety aspect of it, the traffic management, and the general security aspect of it and you know that it is during this time that we record most gruesome and fatal accidents on the road. People who are in the need of ecstasy, drivers will also want to make quick money so there will be a lot of recklessness on the part of drivers and carelessness as well. Overloading and speeding that can lead to accident," he said.
Speaking on TV3, DSP Cephas Arthur did not rule out beaches as he said “more personnel will be deployed there to ensure the safety of merrymakers who will patronise the shores during this period".
He called on the public to comply with the police and also report any malpractices from the police.
“The few bad nuts that we have in the service are fast withering, are fast fallen by the road because of the stringent measures that the police administration have put in place to check them. The IGP has introduced hidden cameras and few police officers have fallen victim and facing the music, so many officers are alert and are cautious. As far as we are concerned, police unprofessionalism that could lead to accidents on our roads are been checked,” he said.
