Rescue operations offshore Takoradi is still ongoing, a day after a helicopter plunged into the Gulf of Guinea, resulting in the death of three.
One person was reported missing after four were rescued from the wreckage on Thursday, May 9.
The rescued are currently receiving treatment at the Takoradi Hospital. They are all workers of Schlumberger, a United States of America oil company.
Director of Air Traffic at the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority Albert Taylor disclosed on TV3’s Midday Live on Friday, May 9 that so far, seven vessels have been dispatched into the ocean to find the missing passenger.
“It is still the first phase of operation,” he said.
Mr. Taylor confirmed that some parts of the wreckage have been removed.
The cause of Thursday’s crash is still not known though Mr. Taylor said the rescue team has met supervisors of Schlumberger over the crash.
“We did not know what happened. In our industry, we cannot speculate. We must find out,” Mr. Taylor said.
