Help government build a ‘WISER’ Ghana – Dr. Ansu pleads with Ghanaians

Senior Policy Advisor at the Finance Ministry, Dr. Yaw Ansu has noted that government’s Ghana Beyond Aid agenda has a vision of creating a wealthy, inclusive, sustainable, empowered and resilient (WISER) Ghana thereby, calling on Ghanaians to be patriotic for this vision to be achieved.

According to him, “There’s a vision of the Ghana we want to see in the near future and in this case we are targeting the next 10 years. By then, of course, we’ll lay the foundation for us to build on. And that vision is what we call a WISER Ghana. A Wealthy Ghana, an Inclusive Ghana that is, Ghana where there’s prosperity for all through the productive enumeration employment, and then Sustainable Ghana, Ghana where we have clean cities, clean towns,…we have an Empowered Ghana where we deepen our democracy and a Resilient Ghana where we can rely increasingly on our own resources”.

For government to achieve this WISER Ghana vision, a framework for Ghana Beyond Aid Policy, Ghanaians need to have an attitudinal change, pursue a new paradigm that is driven by national interest and devoid of political, tribal considerations in order to create prosperity for all.

Dr Ansu also said we need to harness the country’s resources, use them more efficiently so that, Ghana can experience developmental change.

He said, “We have a lot of resources ourselves. We have natural resources, we have young and growing and smart Ghanaian population, if we just harness all of it and deploy it’s efficiency, then we can direct our own development and we can accelerate the point where there’s prosperity and our young Ghanaians don’t have to flee from Ghana to the shores of other countries looking for green pastures”.

He noted that, though this government has successfully pulled out of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), measures have been put in place to ensure that government can properly manage the country’s microeconomic affairs.

Dr. Yaw Ansu made these comments at the official launch of the University of Ghana@70 Alumni Homecoming in Accra.

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu noted that an endowment fund has been established to help lessen the burden of brilliant but needy students on campus.

So far, a sum of about GHC5,600,000 has been raised by various stakeholders, including the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who contributed an amount of GHC5million into the coffers.
