Henkro Chief Dared

Mon, 10 Dec 2001 Source: Ghanaian Chronicle

NANA AKWASI Amoako, head of the Oyoko Royal Family of Ahenkro in Ashanti, has challenged the claims by the chief, Nana Ahenkro Osei II, that he is a royal.

"He is not a royal in the first place and that his claim of legitimacy is false," he told the Chronicle at Ahenkro.

The Abusuapanin attributed the emergence of two factions at Ahenkro to the queenmother, Nana Amma Dapaah, who, he said, was maintaining double standards.

The queenmother has betrayed Nana Appiah, the then Ahenkro chief, during whose reign Nana Amma Dapaah was enstooled, he told Chronicle.

Abusuapanin Amoako dared the chief to contest his claim before any properly constituted judicial committee for determination.

Nana Amoako has since 1966 represented the Oyoko group at Ahenkro, near Offinso, Atwedie and Bompata in the Asante Akim district, Afrante near Sekyedumasi, Kokofu Oyoko and Manso Adubia in the Amansie district of Ashanti. Nana Amoako's challenge came after claims by other royals that Nana Ahenkro Osei is not a royal.

To deepen the tense situation at Ahenkro, the chief has announced the destoolment of , Nana Brobbey Ababio, the Krontihene, Nana Osei Kwaku, Akwamuhene and Okyeame Nana Boakye Yiadom.

The affected chiefs have since objected to their purported destoolments and referred the case to the Kumasi Traditional Council. Another Oyoko royal, Madam Afia Adutwumwaa, has for the past three years been in exile in protest against the installation of Nana Ahenkro Osei as chief of Ahenkro.
