A-64-year-old herbalist who allegedly defiled a 15-year-old girl he was said to be treating has been arraigned before the Asamankese circuit court.
Newlove Ackah, pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody to re-appear on February 15.
The Prosecution’s case was that Ackah who lives at Akyem-Afosu visited Asuom on January 20 this year and introduced himself to the girl's grandmother as a herbalist. The woman introduced the girl to him as a grandchild who is suffering from menstrual pains.
Ackah claimed he could cure the girl and charged the grandmother 37,000 cedis after which the woman gave him a room in her house for him to cure the girl.
On January 23, this year, Ackah gave the girl some herbal concoctions to bath, and then invited her to his room, undressed her and inserted some substances into her private part with his fingers.
Ackah, then pushed the girl down on the bare floor, held her mouth and forcibly had sex with her.
After satisfying himself, he left the victim to go, but she reported her ordeal to the grandmother who confronted the accused and later reported the matter to the police.
The girl was then sent to the St. Dominic's hospital, Akwatia for treatment.
During police interrogation, Ackah denied having had sex with the girl.
