Kumasi, July 11, GNA - The Ghana National Association of Traditional Healers (GNATH) has cautioned the public to be wary of people parading themselves as herbalists.
Mrs Juliana Nkrumah-Gyimah, chairperson of the Ashanti Regional branch of the association, who gave the caution, said in recent times some so-called herbalists have succeeded in selling all sorts of uncertified plant medicine to the public which, she noted, posed grave danger to health.
She therefore, asked the public to assist the association to flush out all quacks in traditional medicine delivery by insisting on scrutinising the licenses of all those who parade as herbal medicine practitioners.
Mrs Nkrumah-Gyimah was speaking at a meeting of the association in Kumasi at the weekend at which the newly elected executive interacted with the members to find solutions to peculiar problems that hindered the promotion of plant medicine.
She was not happy that in spite of the efficacy of plant medicine in the cure of diseases, government was not assisting the association to have easy access to loans to help them embark on research, seminars and workshops for the members to step up the promotion of plant medicine both at home and outside the country.
Evangelist Ernest Ghansah, public relations officer of the association, advised the public to seek treatment from licensed herbalists.
