Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has disclosed that some of the Agenda 111 hospital projects have recorded significant progress, with contractors currently on site of 10 projects.

Speaking on the government’s health sector interventions in a JoyNews interview on October 7, 2026, Akandoh said work on the projects is progressing at different stages, with about five of the projects making significant progress.

“All 10 have contractors on site, but the progress of work at various stages,” he said.

Akandoh explained that the government’s commitment for the year was to begin funding the projects and enable contractors to return to site, rather than necessarily completing them within 2026.

He also assured that the projects being undertaken have been captured in the 2026 budget.

According to Akandoh, the Health Ministry cannot proceed with contracts without obtaining commitment authorisation, which requires the Finance Ministry to confirm that funds are available for the projects.

“You cannot proceed to engage in any contract if you don't have what you call commitment authorization,” he said.

The Health Minister indicated that the Finance Minister must be involved in the process and confirm that funding is available before contracts are signed.

“So, anything I'm talking about is with records of the Finance Minister, it is budgeted for and it will proceed,” he said.

Agenda 111 was introduced by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as a major healthcare infrastructure programme aimed at addressing gaps in hospital coverage across the country.

The initiative was designed to provide 101 district hospitals, seven regional hospitals and two psychiatric hospitals, bringing the total number of facilities under the programme to 111.

The programme seeks to improve access to healthcare in districts without hospitals and to strengthen health infrastructure in the country.
