Here’s an interesting footage of General Kotoka after coup d’etat plot on Nkrumah regime

A rare video of Major General Emmanuel Kotoka speaking in an interview with reporters after he engineered a coup d’état to replace the government of Dr. Nkrumah has surfaced on the internet.

The video, monitored by GhanaWeb saw General Kotoka explaining to reporters his reasoning behind the coup plot that occurred on February 24, 1966.

When asked how the reconstruction of the country was faring after the overthrow of the Nkrumah regime, General Kotoka said; “The country is going very well indeed and everybody is working hard and we hope it won’t be long when the country will be well-positioned”

General Kotoka also indicated that Nkrumah would be welcome with open arms should he decide to return back to the country.

“We will be very pleased indeed to have him back in Ghana and we will give him the red carpet” he remarked.

General Emmanuel Kotoka was the head of the Ghana Armed Forces and a key member of the National Liberation Council (NLC) which replaced Nkrumah’s government.

Its been alleged that the masterminds of the February 24, 1966, coup d’état to replace the Nkrumah regime was orchestrated by the then Inspector General of Police, J.W.K Harley, Major General Emmanuel Kotoka and Major A.A Afrifa.

The video was posted on Twitter on December 5, 2019 by @GhanaianMuseum with the caption; “Footage of a press interview with Major General Emmanuel Kotoka, the head of the Ghana Armed Forces & key member of the National Liberation Council (NLC), which replaced the government of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in February 1966. Kotoka was the man who engineered the coup”
