Here's what parliament will be doing until next break in July

On Tuesday, June 11, 2024, the Parliament of Ghana resumed work for the Third Meeting of the Fourth Session of the Eighth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

In his welcome address to the House, the Speaker, Alban Bagbin, informed the plenary of the various tasks ahead until the next break.

He emphasized five urgent legislations up for consideration, including the Affirmative Action Gender Equality Bill 2023, the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana Amendment Bill 2021, the International Business/Economic Transactions Bill 2024, the Parliamentary Transitions Bill, and the Budget Bill.

Bills and more bills

The Speaker stated that the House currently has some 19 bills pending before various committees, with about 80 more expected to be presented for assessment at the committee levels.

When finally enacted, the various bills will have the effect of amending, adding to, or repealing various provisions of the 1992 Constitution.

Instruments

The Speaker said that, apart from five legislative instruments pending before various committees of the House, some 28 more are expected to be presented for the consideration of Parliament.

Papers and agreements

The Speaker added that 149 papers of legislation are also pending at committee levels, with 27 more expected to be tabled for the House to act on.

He also noted that the House, during the current session, is expected to pass several agreements.

He emphasized that, unless agreed by the House, the current session will end at the end of July. Thus, he urged members of the House to work assiduously in completing the tasks ahead.
