High Court decision supports DVLA CEO Julius Kotey on vehicle plate reforms

The High Court has ruled on the injunction filed by the Vehicle Embossment Manufacturers Association of Ghana (VEMAG), marking a significant development for the country’s transport and security systems.

The decision is seen as a legal endorsement of the reforms initiated by the Chief Executive of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey.

Since assuming office, Mr Kotey has advocated the modernisation of Ghana's vehicle registration system.

His proposal to replace existing registration plates with a new security-focused model is aimed at improving national security and streamlining vehicle registration processes.

The DVLA has faced legal challenges from VEMAG, which sought to block the changes.

Despite these challenges, Mr Kotey has maintained that the reforms are necessary to enhance the efficiency and security of vehicle registration in the country.

The court ruling allows the DVLA to continue with the implementation of the new registration plates as planned.
