An Accra High Court will on Monday begin hearing the defamation case brought before it by the Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, against musician A-Plus.

Born Kwame Asare Obeng, A-Plus had posted on Facebook that the Minister was involved in a “shady” deal through the National Communications Authority (NCA) over the Kelni-GVG contract.

A-Plus posted his comments on Facebook a few moments after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ordered the interrogation of former Ghana Football Association (GFA) chief Kwesi Nyantakyi, last year.

But Mrs Owusu-Ekuful wrote to the musician to retract his post and consequently apologise to her, failure of which she will proceed to court.

This was in May, 2018.

“We are instructed to notify you that our client takes serious view of your defamatory publication on Facebook and would not hesitate to commence legal action against you if the said publication is not retracted on or before Friday, 1st June, 2018,” counsel for the minister Safo & Marfo @ Law wrote to A-Plus.

But it appears A-Plus did not oblige.

The Court is expected to determine, among others, whether A-Plus’s post is defamatory or not.
