Winneba (C/R), Jan 22, GNA-The Minister of Lands and National Resources, Mr Mike Allan Hammah, was on Saturday elected the National Democratic Congress Party parliamentary candidate for Effutu at a party primaries held at Winneba. Mr Hammah, who was the sole candidate, was elected during the 26th Annual Delegates conference of the party by popular acclamation.

Mr Anthony Oppong, Effutu Municipal Electoral Officer, Electoral Commission (EC), took the delegates through the processes of election in accordance with the party’s constitution before the acclamation. Madam Ama Benyiwa-Doe, Central Regional Minister, who was present at the conference, commended supporters, especially the delegates for supporting the MP to bring development to the area. She hoped that they will continue to work harder for the party to retain the parliamentary seat.

The Minister urged the delegates not to allow fabrication of stories by opponents of the party to discourage them from campaigning hard for the NDC to win both Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

She said this year’s election is “not all die be die affair but rather election based on the good performance of a particular party to Ghanaians”. Dr Cornelius Adabiah, a leading member of the NDC, expressed his gratitude to the delegates for their sacrifice so far made for the party. He encouraged them to intensify their campaigning programmes to win more members for the party since winning election is by numbers. Mr Hammah thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and hoped that they will rally behind him to retain the seat to facilitate the development of the constituency.

After declaration of the result a large number of Supports and sympathizers of National Democratic Congress (NDC) joined the constituency executives on a float amidst brass band music and dancing through the principal streets of the town.

Other speakers were; Mr Kojo Asmah Bondzie, Constituency Chairman, and Nii Ephraim, Efutu Municipal Chief Executive. Very Rev Eldad Bonney, Presiding Member of the Assembly, chaired the conference.
