Hit and Run Kills Ghanaian in Virginia

HAYMARKET, Va. - As usual, Emmanuel Yeboah helped close the Ross Dress For Less store on Lee Highway near Gainesville on Monday evening. And as usual, one of his fellow employees offered to give Emmanuel a ride home to the townhouse in which he lived just outside of nearby Haymarket.

Yeboah declined that offer and around 10:00 p.m., he started pedaling his bicycle home on the shoulder of Lee Highway. Minutes later, Yeboah was severely injured.

Police believe his bike was struck from the rear by a motorist who then did not stop.

Another driver saw the unconscious man, pulled over, and called 911. Yeboah was airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital, but he died several hours later.

Prince William County Police believe the suspect vehicle may be gray or silver in color.

A police accident reconstruction unit searched the accident scene for much of the day Tuesday, looking for clues that might suggest a make, model, or year for the suspect car.

Yeboah was 26 years old, and, according to family members, had emigrated to the U.S. only about six months ago from Ghana.

Employees at the Ross store were stunned and saddened to learn of Yeboah's death.
